Previously on Facebook you could create upcoming events on the events page but the event page became ineffective because events often got lost on the Facebook stream. The new Social Calendar application at Facebook.com/SocialCalendar can be added to your page through the “My Page link” in the lower left corner of your page.

Once it is installed on your page, you will have a calendar link in your upper left corner. The Social Calendar will auto complete names of events already created and add map links to your event locations. Make sure you post status updates announcing your event occasionally to your friends, co-workers or fans(make sure they are in the know about your event).

Now Facebook helps you better plan a birthday surprise by giving you the ability to edit a status update and specify who can view this update. All you have to do is click the lock icon below your editing box before posting. It will give you options for which users can see your update. This is customization at its finest.
