Beware the Facebook: New Auto-share Feature Could Embarrass You!

Enjoy social networks? Do you enjoy your privacy as well? If yes to both, then you should be beware of Facebook’s new auto-share feature! This new feature could embarrass you!

Facebook’s new auto-share system collects what you do around the web and can display to your Facebook friends, your every move on the Internet. Instead of pressing the ‘Like’ button, you will only need to click ‘ add to timeline’ on any website or application. The application will then have permission to share your activity with your Facebook friends.

What activities can be seen? A few examples would be as followed: news articles you read online. Videos you watch online. Photos you view online. Music you listen to online. Facebook likes to call this new auto-share feature ‘Gestures’.

What is so alarming about auto-share? The auto-share feature works like this, once you join a site, every article you scan through will be shared with friends through an activity feed. The only way it will stop sharing is if the feature is turned off. Since Facebook shares information with friends, co-workers and family, this could create social drama.

People are no longer individuals but brands of their reputations.

Tech-savvy people and the common Facebook user, often forget about auto share applications and return to doing activities that they would not necessarily want to display to all their friends, co-workers and family.

The best way to avoid embarrassment is to keep an eye on what you share and the parties you share your information and actions with at all times. Remember there is a Facebook feature that allows you to share your activity with the “Public”, “Friends” and “Custom”. You can even make it so you hide your activities from everyone but yourself.

Sometimes sharing everything is not always wise. Select the right privacy settings to protect yourself against mistakes that can harm your reputation forever.
